scoring & splurging: capes
Capes have long been a staple in my wardrobe. I bought my first from a shop in Murray Hill on an apartment hunting trip in NYC. The weather had turned chilly, unexpectedly, and I needed something much warmer than the dress I'd worn that day. Fortunately, they stocked just what I was in the mood for: a black chunky knit cape - with fringe and a turtleneck. Toasty. It kept me warm that weekend and through the blustery, lakeside snows back in Evanston. It had its detractors, of course. Mostly men and anti-hippie-types. (I decided it was the fringe that evoked such strong reactions, which I tossed about liberally and defiantly and carried on.)I loved that cape. I haven't been without one since and am always on the look-out for cape inspiration. And I've found some! First up are the 'scores', where nothing's over 100USD:
